Wendy’s bands together to support CanTeen
Wendy’s is getting behind National Bandanna Day by selling bandannas to help raise funds to support young Australians living with cancer.
CanTeen bandannas will be available at selected Wendy’s outlets in the lead up to National Bandanna Day on October 28.
Wendy’s CEO Rob McKay tells us more about why he loves National Bandanna Day...
Q How are you getting behind National Bandanna Day?
A Wendy’s is so excited to partner with CanTeen nationally and kick off this new relationship with National Bandanna Day in 2011. We are encouraged to see that over half of our network of franchise stores will be selling Bandannas for the month of October in the lead up to Bandanna Day on October the 28th. We have also extended our involvement this year and will be taking to the streets selling bandannas on National Bandanna Day, with key Wendy’s staff buddying up with members throughout the country on October the 28th.
Q Why National Bandanna Day?
A Bandanna Day is CanTeen’s biggest annual fundraiser, so as a major partner it was really important to us to get behind this great program and really drive awareness and sales of merchandise to assist young people living with cancer. Buying, selling and wearing bandannas is a great way to show young people living with cancer that we care. It’s also a simple and highly motivating way for Wendy’s staff and franchisees to be a part of something wonderful that can change someone’s life.
Q What feeling do you get from supporting young people living with cancer?
A Throughout my career I have had many opportunities to get involved with CanTeen, both at an organisational level and at a member level. I have always found my interactions to be 2 way. 2 way in that while I do things to help CanTeen and it’s members, I find CanTeen and it’s members help me. It is a feeling of being a part of something very special that is ultimately designed to help those going through a tough time in their life.

Q Which bandanna design is your favourite?
A I really like the colour and energy that a CanTeen bandanna carries. It symbolises the fresh and fun approach that CanTeen brand tends to reflect. My favourite bandanna design would be ‘Autumn Leaves’ designed by CanTeen Member Natalie. Natalie sadly lost her father to cancer in 2006 and has been able to keep her life on track through the amazing work and services that CanTeen provide.
Q How do you like to wear your bandanna?
A I wear my CanTeen bandana proudly to cover my big bald head.
